Brienne cast?
On his LiveJournal, Not a Blog, GRRM gave us a new casting clue titled “I’m Blue”: The she-wolf of France has stormed the barbican. The Aussie turned her into a bunny.
Winter-is-Coming.net posted the clue and very shortly after, WiC reader Starkgirl offered up an answer that fits all of George’s criteria. Based on her research, it appears British actress Gwendoline Christie will be playing Brienne, the warrior maid of Tarth. Below I’ve included a brief outline of the ways Gwendoline fits into George’s clue, made possible entirely due to Starkgirl’s quick and dedicated research. Follow the links to check it all out!
- Brienne of Tarth is the Blue in Renly Baratheon’s Rainbow Guard. She also has blue eyes, blue armor, and hails from Tarth, the “Sapphire Island.”
- The “She-Wolf of France” references Queen Isabella of France, who was married to England’s King Edward II. Queen Isabella (She-Wolf of France) is also a B-side to Patrick Wolf’s Damaris, a song for which Gwendoline starred in the video.
- The Barbican is a multi-arts/conference venue in London. Gwendoline Christie played the queen in Cymbeline at the Barbican.
- Finally, Australian photographer Polly Borland turned Gwendoline into a bunny for one of several photo shoots the pair worked on together.
I have been in the Gwendoline camp since the beginning. I think she’ll be a great Brienne! Anyone with me?
