The Jaime Lannister artwork for the 2012 Ice and Fire calendar reminds me of paintings from the Northern Renaissance.  I think it may be the colors - the red/gold and high contrast lighting.  Or maybe his face.  The shape and the eyes remind me of Van Eyck’s work.
