FASHION WEEK TREND:  ROYAL RALLY

Like any art form, fashion is a medium in which artists can promote their philosophical or political perspectives.  In that sense, these designers were perhaps showing loyalty to the crown with their work in black and gold.  Polished enough to be regal, but bold enough to show hints of that famous underlying fury, these looks speak to the mixed heritage of House Baratheon.

The Baratheons are descended from two dynasties.  Orys Baratheon was one of Aegon the Conqueror’s finest generals and allegedly also his bastard brother.  During the War of Conquest, Orys slew Argilac the Arrogant, the last Storm King.  As a reward, Aegon gave Orys the Stormlands and installed him at Storm’s End.  Orys also took the king’s daughter as his wife and adopted her family’s words, banners and title.  Thus, in House Baratheon we have a marriage of Valyrian nobility with the pre-Conquest Westerosi royalty.  It is this unique element that shows through in these garments.  We can see a nod to the legacy, power and sophistication of the Valyrian Freehold.  But at the same time, we can sense the weathered, rugged, fearless pride of the Storm Kings.  With the ascent of King Robert to the Iron Throne, House Baratheon began to write its own story in the book of kings.  No one can say what those pages will hold, but one thing is certain: the Storm Lords will always be a force to be reckoned with.

If only there were a Lady Baratheon!  (young Shireen doesn’t count!)

GOT + fashion = delightful.

ASOIAF video game?

Read this post from GRRM’s “Not a Blog.”  George says that during his trip to Seattle for the ADWD tour, he stopped at Bungie.  But he can’t tell us why, or else he’d have to kill us.

Bungie is a video game studio responsible for a game we’ve all heard of - Halo.  Could Bungie be developing an ASOIAF-themed video game?  Perhaps a MMORPG set in Westeros where we create our own characters, choose an allegiance to a certain house, and set out on a quest to win the game of thrones?

I’m really not a MMORPG fan, but oh, I so would.

Everyone’s favorite Faceless Man, JAQEN H’GHAR, will be portrayed in Game of Thrones by German actor Tom Wlacshiha, according to WiC.net.  I am super hyped about this, because he looks PERFECT.  Attractive in a different way, refined, with a very unique look, and eyes that appear simultaneously expressive, detached and deceptive, all qualities necessary to portray Jaqen.
He is German, but IMDB says he’s a polyglot.  I wonder if he’ll use his language skills to give Jaqen a really unique accent indicative of his foreign culture?
JHG is one of my favorite periphery ASOIAF characters, so this casting is one of the most exciting for me this time around!  I’m super hyped to see Tom in costume, in action, and acting against Maisie!

From College Humor’s “If Adult TV Shows Were Remade For Children.”  I love Ghost’s face!

Lea Seydoux for YGRITTE!

Ygritte is a wildling girl Jon Snow encounters beyond the Wall.  She is pretty sassy, definitely isn’t afraid to speak her mind and is “kissed by fire,” meaning she has red hair.  I will not say anything more than that so as not to spoil any new fans who haven’t yet read far enough to meet her.

WiC.net created a post outlining potential candidates to fill Ygritte’s role in the HBO show.  I have been a fan of Lea for Ygritte throughout the whole process, as I think she has the perfect look and “foreignness” needed to pull off the character.

Daenerys Halloween costume, anyone?

Inspiration:  Lavender dress from JS Collections Fall 2011.  Wig unknown.  Amethyst contacts from FreshLook ColorBlends.  Dragon opal from Marty Magic.  Paper machier dragons as seen on about.com.

For anyone who wasn’t able to get to the HBO Store in New York City, there are some pictures of the props and costumes that were on display.  Not to be super creepy, but I touched Jon Snow’s costume…  :)

Also, photos from the GOT food truck that brought Westerosi (and Pentoshi) food to New Yorkers back in March.

Pictures still tagged but less all over their faces and the pictures much bigger.

AWESOME! You can actually see Kit and Alfie’s faces in these. TUMBLR IS QUICK!

Question for lullofthetide (you don’t have an ask box!) - how did you get these with such small watermarks? There are some other pics of Alfie I’d looove to get from Capital. Did you pay?

I don’t care if there are watermarks, these are awesome and need to be reblogged.

I love Kit’s style.  Edgy without being presumptious.  Oh you know something, Jon Snow.

This is quite spectacular.  Blue Bolt is the company that did the amazing effects on the first season of Thrones.  If you visit their website, you’ll see how proud they are of GOT - four out of seven of the pictures featured on their homepage are from the show!

FINALLY I have time to process and post pictures of this Daenerys fanart I made to give to George at his NYC A Dance with Dragons signing (yes, the one two weeks back on the 14th :/).

This is inspired by Art Nouveau and done in the style of Alphonse Mucha, one of my favorite artists.  Dany is drawn as a queen, with her dragon crown.  Instead of doing a golden headpiece, I wanted to do something that resembles dragons’ wings wrapping around her head, and decided to do scales in a multitude of colors.  I put Dany in front of a halo comprised of the sigils of the other Great Houses of Westeros because I believe she has a greater claim to the Iron Throne than any of them.  There’s also a layer of fire against a black background to evoke the Targaryen colors.  And the halo is ringed by her name and titles as she proclaims them in A Dance with Dragons.  A trio of dragon motifs frame her.

…mother of dragons…child of three…
…mother of dragons…child of storm…

I made this on the eve of the signing to give to George.  I’m not sure if my wanting to bring him something puts me on the very edge of the precipice that juts out over creepy fangirl land.  But I guess I just wanted to tell him thanks for giving us this world.  :)

Don’t want to spoil anything from Clash for anyone who hasn’t read that far, but those of you who have know what scene this is from!

Does anyone else think Kit gives off young Johnny Depp vibes?  I think it’s in the eyes.

Look who it is…
Arya is hands down my favorite character.  IMO the series should be called A Song of Arya and Some Other People.
I experimented a bit with this one and I like the results, so now I gotta go back and make sure the other bookmarks are consistent with this one.
It looks like she’s elbowing Nymeria in the eye but she’s NOT, they’re BFFs of course.
Other bookmarks: Jon Snow, Robb Stark, Sansa Stark

These fanarts are adorable!  Check out tildrum’s blog to see some of the other Stark kids! :D
